Strengthening Healthcare Relief: KRT's 48-Bed HDU for Critical Covid Patients-2020:
In response to the 2020 COVID crisis, Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) undertook a pivotal initiative in healthcare capacity building. The organization constructed a state-of-the-art 48-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) exclusively for critical Covid patients. These portable units, strategically designed for flexibility and efficiency, are now in operation at The Indus Hospital. This proactive step signifies KRT’s unwavering commitment to fortifying healthcare infrastructure and providing critical care resources and support to those affected by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The HDU has benefitted a total of 9,216 individuals, emphasizing KRT’s impact on strengthening medical facilities during these unprecedented times.
COVID-19 Relief: Empowering Day Wagers Through Comprehensive Initiatives-2020 (Ration Bags, Ramzan Bags, and PPE Packages Reach):
Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) took proactive measures during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis to alleviate the plight of day laborers grappling with the economic fallout of lockdowns. The organization pioneered an innovative approach by developing a specialized app for efficient ration distribution, ensuring targeted assistance and avoiding duplication of efforts. Geotagging all deliveries facilitated a streamlined and impactful relief process. Amid the pandemic, KRT collaborated with Indus Hospital to establish medical camps, contributing to widespread testing and inoculation efforts. The relief program extended beyond ration distribution, encompassing the provision of 34,000 ration bags and 27,000 Ramzan boxes, totaling 61,000, as part of a comprehensive strategy for relief, rehabilitation, and healthcare. In addition, the initiative addressed safety concerns by distributing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), including face masks, sanitizers, and gloves, to both individuals and hospitals, further fortifying the community against the challenges posed by the pandemic.


Heatwave Relief 2015 and 2016:
Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) has demonstrated unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid, providing relief during the heatwaves of 2015 and 2016. The KRT Medical Relief Corps was crucial in coordinating efforts and collaborating with various partners to address the health and relief needs of affected communities.
Chitral Earthquake Immediate Support 2015:
Karachi Relief Trust responded promptly to the Chitral Earthquake, offering immediate relief to 1,000 families (~6,000 individuals). This encompassed providing interim shelter, food, warm clothing, and essential medical assistance to address the urgent needs of those displaced. Emergency Items Distribution: As part of relief efforts, Karachi Relief Trust distributed emergency items such as tarpaulins, blankets, and warm clothing to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by the affected population.


Flood Relief in Chitral-2015:
KRT mobilized volunteers in the Bumboret Valley of Chitral. Assistance included food aid and medical aid. KRT partnered with the Paragliding Association of Pakistan for social mobilization.
Medicines for humans and animals in Bannu-2014:
In 2014, Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) directed its efforts to Bannu, providing vital medical support for both humans and animals. The initiative included the provision of medicines for the local population and veterinary care for animals. Furthermore, KRT extended its commitment by supplying doctors and paramedics to support the Rural Health Unit, Basic Health Unit, and Pediatric Ward in and around Bannu, contributing to enhanced healthcare accessibility in the region. This comprehensive approach reflects KRT’s dedication to addressing the communities’ and livestock’s health needs.


Earthquake Relief in Awaran & Mashkay, Baluchistan-2013:
Mobile Medical Camps in the Thar Desert (Diplo and Nagarparkar)-2013:
In the same year 2013, the organization extended its reach to the Thar desert, conducting mobile medical camps in Diplo and Nagarparkar, offering healthcare services and nutritional supplements for women and children, demonstrating its dedication to holistic disaster response and community well-being.


Floods in Upper Sindh Relief -2012:
In the second week of August 2012, unprecedented rains caused flash flooding and left thousands of small communities under 4 to 6 feet of water with a majority of homes washed away. KRT surveyed, Thull, Kashmore, Kandhkot, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad districts and found 1000 of families taking refuge on higher ground, banks, and main roads. Areas of intervention by KRT included Goth Mazari on Sui – Kashmore Road, Pat Feeder Canal West of Kandhkot and Kashmore, Camp in Mian Jo Goth, Mubarak Pur/ Raja Pur/ Laal Bhatti catering to areas around Thull, Bakshapur near Kandhkot and Ghari Yaseen.
Sindh Massive Floods Relief-2011:
In response to the massive floods in Sindh and Baluchistan in 2011, Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) undertook immediate relief efforts similar to those in 2010. Basic interventions were deployed to aid approximately 50,000 affected individuals under KRT’s care for a duration of one to two months.


Relief for Flood Affectees -2010:
In response to the 2010 floods in Sindh and Baluchistan, Karachi Relief Trust (KRT) swiftly set up 54 camps across eight districts, aiding over 37,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) for two months. KRT’s relief efforts provided daily essentials, medical care, and infrastructure refurbishment in schools and government buildings. The organization deployed 18,000 filtration units, collaborated with SINA Trust for healthcare, and installed 1,500 hand pumps, ensuring both immediate and sustained support for affected communities. These efforts reflect KRT’s commitment to comprehensive relief and infrastructure development for long-term resilience.
Relief Program for People of Swabi-2009:
In 2009, Karachi Relief Trust provided vital relief to internally displaced persons in Mardan and Swabi, offering essential supplies like food, water, and shelter. The organization implemented community-based initiatives, vocational training for women, and infrastructure support, including “Tandoors.” Additionally, medical camps and focused support for infants and children addressed critical healthcare needs. This comprehensive approach demonstrated KRT’s commitment to immediate relief and sustained community well-being.


Quetta Earthquake Relief- 2008:
In 2008, Karachi Relief Trust once again demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian aid by swiftly mobilizing its team to assist the victims of the Quetta Earthquake. The organization recognized the situation’s urgency and took proactive initiatives to prevent a widespread humanitarian crisis. The primary focus during the relief phase was on addressing the immediate needs of the affected population.
Karachi Relief Trust played a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of those displaced by the earthquake. The team engaged in extensive food distribution efforts, providing essential sustenance to the affected communities. This timely and targeted response helped alleviate the immediate hardships faced by the earthquake victims.
